While having the position of Pictou Library C@P Trainer, I’ll be offering a photo restoration/editing program and a documentary media course. I'll be teaching from both experience and from post-secondary training. I taught photography/video and media courses to children/teens at a children's summer camp in Upper New York state as well as at Canning Nova Scotia's "Ross Creek Centre for the Arts".
"How to Fix Photos" will teach late teens and adults how to scan old photos, remove scratches and dust, red-eye reduction and other image repair and restore tactics. We'll also be looking at how to manipulate digital images from digital camera and cell phones. I'll teach you how to remove backgrounds from pictures, how to bring dark pictures to life, replace colour tones and more.
"Documenting Pictou" will explore digital photography and teach the documentary/social aspects of the medium. We’ll discuss photography, learn neat camera tricks, talk about our pictures and look at the present/historic state of our town. We'll meet every week or two (depending on demand) and prepare our work for a possible public exhibition in partnership with the Pictou Historical Photograph Society. If you're interested in photography for a career, college or hobby, I highly recommend this course.
It’s going to be a great time--whether you’re old or young, a tech-head or a beginner! Programs will be starting early April. If you are interested, please call me at the library 485-5021 to register and for further information or email pictoulibrarycap@gmail.com.
